I grew up just across the state line from Memphis, Tennessee in a little town called Southaven, Missisippi. Southaven has always been like a suburb of Memphis.
You may recognize the name of my town from a famous author who actually lived down the street from me growing up, John Grisham. Incidentally, John has a another New York Times Best Seller, The Rooster Bar that I can’t wait to read. I hope you will read it too. Like John, I am able to draw colorful inspiration from a community rich with culture and diversity.
Another one of my favorite authors who called this area home, is historical author, Shelby Foote. Shelby was most known for his Civil War Trilogy that was featured in a well known PBS Ken Burns documentary series on The Civil War.
Because I’m an entrepreneur and a writer, my husband says that I write business plans for fun in my spare time. He may tease me about my love for words, but words are very powerful. They allow good writers to make sense of the chaos in their lives. The real power lies in the delivery of words, not just the story.
Much of my inspiration is drawn from my family so I am indebted to them for allowing me the liberty at times of sharing the intimate details of our lives. Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for my amazing children and grandchildren and the life I lead with the best man I know.
I hope that somehow, along the way, my words will draw you in to wallow around, help you identify with characters and keep you coming back for more.
